MacArthur, Flora Elizabeth
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Flora Elizabeth MacArthur (nee Green) at the age of 94. Flora was born in Mount Forest on January 14, 1931. She was the eldest daughter of George and Jesse Green. Flora was predeceased by her brother Telford. She has predeceased her sister Eunice. Flora was the wife of the late Earl MacArthur and mother of 3 sons, Jim (Mary), Bruce (Wendy), Richard (MaryAnn) (Liz). Flora left behind 4 grandchildren; Jeff, Craig, Heather and Devon and 3 great grandchildren; Olivia, Callum and Zayden.
Flora lived on her family farm near Mount Forest and never forgot the long walks to school, tobogganing on the farm and the maple sap collection each spring. She worked at theTelephone Office in both Mount Forest and Snelgrove. Once married, Flora and Earl moved to Brampton, settled for a time in Snelgrove, and eventually made their forever home in Stewarttown from 1966 until 2025.
Flora was a long time member of the Norval United Church. She volunteered her time making pies and helping with teas and the BBQ chicken fundraisers. She had many friends among the members of the church and is well remembered there. Flora had numerous interests and hobbies. She loved clipping out names and pictures of friends and family from the newspapers and made sure they had copies of their time in the limelight. Flora enjoyed clogging, a dance characterized by loud fast footwork with metal taps on the shoes. She shared her passion with her grandchildren and in their younger years, they joined her in dance performances. Flora and Earl were a great square dance team and they travelled all over North America in their motor home competing and performing. Flora loved working with her hands and created beautiful hooked rugs and wall hangings, often dying her own materials to use in them.
Flora was diagnosed in 2018 with Alzheimer's. With support she was able to stay in her own home until June of 2025 when she suffered a stroke. Always a fighter, Flora worked her way back from the stroke as best she could until it was her time to go.
Friends and family will miss Flora but will remember the wonderful woman she was and all she did with, and for them.
A Celebration of Flora's Life will be held in the Fall. Further information to come.
In honour of Flora, memorial donations may be made to the Wellington Hospice in Guelph.
