Eunice Luverna McGowan, née Dafoe, passed away peacefully on Friday September 16th 2022, her children holding vigil.
Born July 20, 1934, Eunice touched a multitude of lives throughout her 88 years. As a Social Worker she brought her compassion and empathy with tremendous strength and tenacity to support clients through their most painful times. She dedicated the last half of her career to developing non-profit home support systems for seniors, a cause she cared about passionately.
In 2013 Eunice was honoured as a founding director of the Ontario Community Support Association which now represents over 200 not-for-profit organizations providing home care and community support for seniors. She served on innumerable organizational boards and government advisory committees, most recently the Bennett Health Centre in Georgetown.
Eunice is predeceased by her husband Terrance McGowan and her sisters Ruth, Grace and Isla Dafoe. She is survived by sister Shirley Adam and brother Bob Dafoe, her children Susan (André), Maureen, Catherine and Tim (Kate) and grandchildren Catherine, Felix, Duncan and Callum.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's United Church in Georgetown on Saturday October 1st at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please donate to Bennett Village via CanadaHelps.org.
