Dawson, Ernest Wesley “Ernie” –
Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday June 19, 2025 at the Georgetown Hospital. Ernie, in his 84th year, beloved husband of Joan (nee Houldsworth) for 59 years. Loving father of Kathy (Alex) Docker, Greg (Shirley) and Christine (Derek) Bessette. Loved Grandpa of Colin, Ryan, Abigail, Alexis, Tyla, Georgia, Skye and Sam. Dear brother-in-law of Ken (Merydie) Houldsworth.
Ernie was born in Montreal on October 18, 1941 and raised in Mille Isle, Quebec. The family farm later became part of the Boy Scout Camp Tamaracouta, where Ernie met Joan, the daughter of the Camp Director. Ernie was a graduate of Sir George Williams University (now Concordia). With his Science degree, he worked as a Production Manager for several pharmaceutical companies. He was the Production Manager at Smith, Kline and French when the company moved from Montreal to Mississauga in 1979. Ernie and Joan relocated their family to Georgetown where they raised their three children. Upon early retirement Ernie ran a home service business for many years and was known as a handyman who could fix anything. His grandkids would always bring their broken toys to him to fix with his “Grandpa Glue”. He was involved with St. Alban’s Church in Glen Williams and enjoyed helping maintain the property. Ernie loved nothing more than spending time with his grandkids, attending many sporting and theatre events, always cheering them on. Family was everything to Ernie and we are so thankful he was our husband, father and grandfather.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pellini, Dr. Yani and Dr. Kupar and the wonderful, caring staff at Georgetown Hospital for their exceptional care.
Family and friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Thursday, July 3rd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, July 4th at 11 am at Jones Funeral Home. Reception to follow in the Trafalgar Room at Jones Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation or the St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Glen Williams would be appreciated.
