Douglas Stanley Leys

September 6, 1946 — September 6, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Douglas Stanley Leys announces his passing on September 6, 2025, which would have been his 79th birthday.

Doug was born on September 6, 1946, in Weston, Ontario. He is predeceased by his parents, Winnifred Boulder and John (Jack) George Leys, and by his brother William. He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Carol, his son Clayton (Christine), and his cherished granddaughter Erika, along with extended family and a wide circle of friends.

Doug spent much of his working life as a locksmith, first with Best Locks and the Peel District School Board, before starting his own business, Alfa Lock. In his early working years, he developed a lifelong fascination with machines, especially fast cars. From Mustangs to Chevelles to Corvettes, he loved them all.

A quiet man by nature, Doug was often content to sit back at family gatherings or social events, listening to others share their stories. He didn’t speak often, but when he did, people stopped to listen. He had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humour, always ready with a quick one-liner that brought smiles and laughter.

Doug and Carol spent most of their married life in Acton, where they built a large and devoted group of friends. His kindness, dry humour, and willingness to help others whenever he could are a testament to the compassionate way he saw the world.

In recent years, Doug faced challenges with his health. True to his nature, he met each one with determination and grit. He often said, “Stuff happens. You deal with it and carry on; that’s just the way it is.” That’s exactly how he lived his life, every single day.

We will miss you dearly, Dougie, and think of you every day. Until we meet again, rest in paradise and have a cold one for us.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Milton District Hospital Foundation or the Oakville Hospital Foundation.

As per Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to lay him to rest.
