Derek Vincent Fisher
Peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on October 30, 2025, Derek Vincent Fisher passed away at the age of 86.
Beloved husband of Zorina Fisher (née Koren) for 65 wonderful years this past May. Loving father of Veronica Schwellnus (Carl), Derek Fisher, Natalie Walkom (the late Steven), and Gregory Fisher (Helen, née Tsiourantanis). Cherished grandfather of Marina Schwellnus, Margaret “Meg” O’Brien (Mathieu), Dezora Walkom (Alex van der Zande), Brenden Walkom, Fiona Walkom, Adelaide Fisher, and Derek Fisher.
Derek is survived by his siblings Gordon Fisher (Patricia), Deanna Benton, Wenda Simons (the late Larry), and his sister-in-law Olga Fisher. He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Charles Fisher (Carol, née Oatway), Roycel Fisher, and Janice Lyman (Steve).
Derek lived a full and vibrant life. Born and raised in Bermuda, he met the love of his life, Zorina, while they both worked at the Mid-Ocean News. A printing press operator, Derek’s colleagues were perplexed when he started to buy drinks from the vending machine which required him to get change from Zorina, the pretty new receptionist from Toronto. They married and had two children before moving from Bermuda to Canada, where they established their home.
Over the years, two more children were born to them. Derek started his own business, Fisher Litho Arts, a company which specialized in pre-press services for the printing industry for over 30 years. In addition, Derek was a gifted artist and musician who loved playing guitar; an enthusiastic member of his motorcycle club, and an avid HAM radio operator. He found joy in maintaining his property and gardens in Terra Cotta, preserving the vegetables he grew, and cooking for family and friends. A skilled craftsman, Derek could fix anything. He was passionate about sailing, and took his family camping locally and across the country to participate in Mirror Dinghy regattas before settling with his bigger boat at the Pickering Yacht Club and then Bluffers Park. Above all, he loved his family deeply and took pride in everything he did. He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
