November 28, 1963 - September 22, 2024

It is with deep sadness yet gratitude for a courageous life lived, Dave's family announces his passing from this life at Humber River Hospital in Toronto on Sunday, September 22, 2024. After a ten year battle with frontotemporal dementia, Dave passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and their music, with his mind finally at rest.

Forever in their hearts, Dave leaves behind his wife of twenty-six years, Stacey, and their children Tearney (Adam), Cole (Katie), Curtis and Adam. Predeceased by his parents, Lawrence (Lanny) and Joyce Jones, David will be greatly missed by his sister Kimberley (Glen) Costello, his brother Michael, and his sisters-in-law Lynda JohnstonEnta, Lori Johnston and Lesley (David) Reed. With many happy memories, he will also be remembered by his aunt, Diane Hetherington, his uncles, Dennis Jones, Gary (Mary) Jones and Bud Hinds, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dave was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, where he attended elementary and secondary school, and later Northern College to study Mechanical Engineering Technology, graduating in 1985. His years growing up in Kirkland Lake were spent skiing at Raven Mountain, playing hockey, swimming and lifeguarding, and enjoying summers at the family cottage on Kenogami Lake.

After his electrical apprenticeship and with experience under his belt, Dave opened his business, Pinnacle Industrial Automation, in the profile cutting industry in 1994 with his long-time business partner, Paul Silva. Working to build Pinnacle was one of Dave's greatest passions, and after twenty-one years of hard work and creative design, he retired from the company in 2016.

Dave met his beloved wife Stacey in Norval in 1995 and the two were later married on February 14, 1998 in Erin, Ontario. Seeking the small-town charm Dave had grown up with, the couple moved their family to Georgetown, Ontario in 1997. It turns out Dave was right when he told Stacey, "I think you’ll really like it there", as Georgetown would be where they raised their four children and built their family home. Dave was also heavily involved in the community, where he was a member of the Georgetown Raquet Club and a regular at his men's Saturday pick-up hockey and weeknight league games. As his kids grew and shared his love for hockey, he coached his children in the North Halton Girls Hockey Association and the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association. Together with his family, Dave always watched and cheered on his favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. When the kids grew older and he had more free time, Dave continued to enjoy squash and hockey as well as hobbies including playing the guitar and his love of woodworking. He would often share his art pieces with family and friends, which will be treasured possessions for years to come in Dave's absence.

Despite his declining health, Dave always remained positive and determined to live life on his terms. He may not have gotten all the years he deserved, but he certainly made the most of the 60 years he had. Dave's kindness towards everyone he met was unwavering. He would always say, "They are good friends of mine." Well Dave, you were a good friend of ours too.

Dave's family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Morris Freedman and his team at Baycrest Health Sciences (Neurology and Rotman Research Institute), the team at Silver Creek Place Day Program, Dr. Carmela Tartaglia at Toronto Western Hospital and the entire Intensive Care Unit staff at Humber River Hospital for their excellence in caring for Dave and their compassion and respect towards him and his family.

The family will welcome relatives and friends at JONES FUNERAL HOME (11582 Trafalgar Rd, Georgetown, ON L7G 4S4) for a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
