Catherine "Cathie" Rose St. Clair (née Bignell) passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, in her 76th year, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Cathie is now reunited with her beloved husband of 48 years, Dale; her parents, Herb and Myrtle Bignell (née McBride); her siblings, Dan (Wanda), Brenda (Joe), and Gail (Allen); her nephew, Mark; and many cherished pets, including Midget, Peach, Cleo, and especially Gizmo.
Born and raised in Old Brampton, she lived a life centred around family, food, travel, and laughter. Cathie spent nearly 50 years serving the community from behind the deli counter at the Brampton Mall Metro, beginning with its earliest days as Steinberg's. Her warm smile and quick wit made her a familiar and beloved face to generations of customers. After retiring in 2016, Cathie and Dale fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to their peaceful home in Caledon, surrounded by fields and forests. It was a place of welcome and wonder, where the porch was always open for a visit, the coffee was always on, and wild turkeys roamed freely through the yard.
Cathie and Dale—and later their kids and extended family—were always up for a travel adventure. Whether it was just the two of them exploring places like Bermuda or the Grand Canyon, or the whole family setting off on Alaskan cruises, trips to Memphis by train, Caribbean getaways, or magical visits to Disney, travel was a source of joy, laughter, and lasting memories.
Cathie is lovingly remembered by her son Logan (Luciana), daughter Virginia (Rob), and her treasured grandchildren Ashleen, Ewan, and Liam. She will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her devoted nurse, Annie, and the compassionate staff at Bethell House Hospice for their care during her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Norval United Church, 14015 Danby Rd, Georgetown, Ontario. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., and the service will begin at 1:30 p.m., with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cathie's memory to Bethell House Hospice.
