Carolyn Gale Martin – Passed peacefully on Saturday January 3, 2026, in Milton, Ontario, at the age of 84 years.

A loving mother to her 5 children Mike, Sue, Kris, Tracey and Scott, Grandmother to Andrew, Ryan, Alexia, Jade, Rowan and Isla, Great Grandmother (GG) to Everly, Ellie, Beau and Wesley. She was also considered a second Mom to so many others she met and supported throughout her life.

Carolyn was always busy with projects that reflected her many diverse interests. “I like being on the edge of learning about things all the time” reflects her passion for learning and approach to life.

A talented artist with a passion for trying new things. Her interest in sculpting, pottery, painting and drawing led to many learning adventures at Sheridan College, the Ottawa School of Art, in Provence France and through her involvement with the Credit Valley Artisans both as an Artist and Webmaster.

Carolyn retired from Canada Post in 2006. A large part of her career involved IT projects that had her working for extended periods in Toronto, Mississauga and Ottawa as well as travelling throughout Canada implementing new tools and processes.

Carolyn believed strongly in environmental sustainability and had an ongoing impact in the Halton Hills community serving on a number of environmental and development committees in Georgetown and the Credit Valley. Her extensive volunteer work with Willow Park Ecology Centre, Credit Valley Artisans, Halton Hills Cultural roundtable and the Town’s sustainable advisory committee (TEAC) was recognized in 2014 with the Ontario Senior of The Year award.

Carolyn's volunteer work advanced many initiatives that benefited those living in her community both as an active hands on participant and behind the scenes tirelessly developing and using her skills to procure funding for a number of important community initiatives. She became an important resource to groups trying to navigate provincial and regional funding avenues.

Carolyn's passion, drive and curiosity, positively touched the lives of so many people and led to an extraordinary number of accomplishments during her extraordinary life. Some notable contributions and accomplishments include:

Advancement of the Willow Park Ecology Centre serving as the park manager and volunteer board member for more than 20 years.

Establishment of the Georgetown St John Ambulance branch and programs. Her work was recognized in 1999 and 2003 by her investiture in the The Priory Of Canada of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. She was presented with the Order of St. John as a Serving Sister and later Officer by the Governor General of Canada in Ottawa.

Recognition as a founding volunteer member of the Halton branch of the United Way in 1985.

She is known for her participation with Norval Riverfest, Plein Air art sessions in the Georgetown area, Lucy Maude Montgomery gardens, Helson gallery and heavily involved with the Credit Valley Artisans and Norval studios.

Carolyn was a breast cancer survivor and greatly appreciated the assistance of Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CASHH). In 2024 Carolyn suffered a life altering stroke and benefitted from the care of staff at the Georgetown Hospital and Allendale Long Term Care. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a cancer society of your choice would be an appropriate remembrance of her life.
