Bruce Whiteford

October 12, 1959 — May 16, 2023

May 16, 2023, Bruce Roy Robert Whiteford of Glen Williams, Ontario passed away peacefully at

Queensway Hospital with his beloved sweetheart Laura at his side.

A talented musician who played piano and trumpet, Bruce led a varied career, starting out as a disc

jockey at CFNY and a CNE Bandstand Manager at only age 16. He became an electrician with Ontario

Hydro and started his love for production as a lighting director for Brampton Theatre in the mid-80s. His

career took him to progressively more senior roles at Global TV, TVO, and CBC, where he retired in 2018.

While his accomplishments are too numerous to list, in addition to decades on Hockey Night in Canada,

Bruce was the Technical Producer for events such as the Canada Winter Games (Whitehorse), Hockey

Day in Canada (Iqaluit), Pan Am Summer Games (Dominican Republic), Canada 150 on Parliament Hill,

and two musical productions for Andrew Lloyd Webber. Even upon retirement, Bruce was unable to

stay away from the career he loved, continuing as a freelance Technical Producer with Mediapro Canada

and Dome Productions.

Bruce married the love of his life, Laura, in 1983. Together, they shared their passion for gardening,

travel, music, and theatre to build a beautiful life together. During almost 40 years of marriage, they

travelled the globe on over 75 cruises, making many friends and memories along the way. They settled

in Glen Williams, where they spent summers creating a garden oasis, hosted wonderful gatherings of

family and friends, and enjoyed picnics and day trips in their convertible.

It was important to Bruce to give back to the community. Selfless and kind to the core, he joined

Freemasons, shared his knowledge to mentor those with whom he worked, and was the first to lend a

hand to family, friends, and neighbours.

Bruce had a keen, inquisitive mind and exceptional memory. He enjoyed learning the history of the

places he travelled and the engineering marvels he saw. It was not enough to be on a train or ship; he

had to know how it was constructed and the stories of those who built it. Despite meeting hundreds of

people during his lifetime, he never forgot a name or a face.

To know Bruce was to love him. Larger than life, he made friends wherever he went with his big heart,

ready smile, generosity of spirit, and quick wit. No matter how busy he was or where he travelled, he

made time to connect with those he loved.

Bruce lived life to the fullest with his soulmate, Laura. Although he was only with us for 63 short years,

he has left a lasting legacy through his impact on the lives of all those whom he touched.

Per his wishes, Bruce will be remembered in a private ceremony on May 20 th at Jones Funeral Home.

Cremation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or Peel Lodge

Caledon East.

Laura is absolutely devastated, but she recognizes that there are many who would like to gather to

remember and celebrate Bruce. There will be a celebration of life in July. Details will be updated on this

site.
