Bruce Erwin Lewis

July 2, 2022 — July 2, 2022

The Family of Bruce Erwin Lewis (1951-2022) sadly announce his passing after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, on Saturday, July 2nd, 2022 at his home in Georgetown. Bruce’s wife Sandy (of 48 years) and daughter Shalon, along with family and friends are left to remember, celebrate and appreciate all that he did for the community of Halton Hills and for many others across the province. Bruce, was predeceased by his mother Helen Margaret (Peg) and like his father Erwin; (predeceased), enjoyed serving their Community for a collective 68 years, as a Firefighter in many capacities. Bruce’s immediate family Bryan (Elaine); Barry (deceased)(Ann); Leanne Reid (deceased Bob); Lauren Abercrombie (Dan) along with many nieces and nephews will carry on the Lewis Family traditions. Bruce loved his sports as a player, coach or as an official. He cheered for his Red Wings! Friendships kindled through sports still remain today. Fishing trips were often discussed, but few details divulged. Like sports, his Fishing buddies remained friends to the end. Bruce’s next love, beyond his family was being an active Firefighter, training, Recruiting for Halton Hills, teaching at the Ontario Fire College or on behalf of the Ontario Fire Marshall. So aptly said by a Fire Department member: “Bruce leaves a legacy of training thousands of Firefighters”. His community was often the benefactor. He was the Family repairman, Neighbourhood lawn doctor, Security representative, Family Tree custodian and a Normandy Boulevard Brat, to name a few titles he carried with honours. Something needs fixing….call Bruce. Fire Department personnel summed Bruce’s life so well…. “Rest easy Captain. You were a Mentor and Friend to so many. We will miss you Lewie.” A heartfelt thanks goes out to the Oakville Hospital Cancer Care Clinic, Bruce’s Oncologist - Dr. Andrea Lee, his Oncology Nurse - Anushika Jeyakumaran and a special mention to his amazing Nurse Practitioner - Sandy Fawcett. Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, July 8 from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Multiple Myeloma Canada, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Cancer Clinic or the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
