Betsy Vanderham
Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 23, 2026.
Beloved wife of the late Bob Vanderham, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Loving mother of Roger and Roy, and cherished Grandma to Rachel and Angela.
Betsy was the heart of her family; someone who quietly looked after everyone, always putting others before herself. She loved deeply and unconditionally, and her family meant everything to her. Gentle in spirit, she was known for her kindness and steady, positive outlook; she rarely showed anger and carried a calm strength that touched all who knew her.
Born in Holland, Betsy’s early years were marked by the realities of war. On her fifth birthday, the day Germany invaded the Netherlands, she stood with her father watching bombers pass overhead. In a moment she would carry with her for life, he reassured her, “all of these people are here to celebrate your birthday.” Betsy held onto that spirit of optimism throughout her life.
As a young woman, she embraced adventure and travel, living in Switzerland and Germany before returning to Holland. It was there, while working at a beachside café during a trip north with a friend, that she met the love of her life, Bob. Together, they built a life rooted in love and shared experiences, continuing their travels and later spending cherished time with their grandchildren in Florida.
In the 1960s, Betsy and Bob made the journey to Canada, where they created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown.
In memory of Betsy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
Time to rest, Mom.
“You did it.”
