Barbara Pentesco

November 28, 1938 — May 27, 2025

The world lost a special person on May 27, 2025, when Barbara Pentesco passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. Barb was a remarkable woman, a devoted mother, a cherished best friend, and so much more to everyone who knew her.

Barb was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Pentesco, and her second husband, Robert Hess. She leaves behind her beloved children: Dawn Pentesco, Scott Pentesco, and Deborah Pentesco. She will be profoundly missed by her brother Greg Chesney and sister-in-law Lisa; her sister Cynthia Gall and brother-in-law Jim Gall; as well as her son-in-law Matthew Murphy, who admired her sharp wit and compassionate heart. Barb's grandchildren, Ben and Jake brought her much joy and laughter. In recent years, she was lovingly cared for by Kerri, whose kindness and devotion meant the world to her. Her infectious laughter, comforting warmth, and generous spirit will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Barb had a unique zest for life. She was a passionate and remarkably lucky Bingo player, known for enthusiastically yelling "BINGO!"—cheered on by her buddy Maurice while managing multiple cards at once. She treasured her trips to Las Vegas with her best friend Mary and her beloved mother, Frances, creating memories filled with laughter and excitement.

In her youth, Barb was an elite swimmer with Olympic potential. She often shared fond stories of mountain climbing and idyllic summers spent in Lake Louise. Alongside her first husband, Joe, she raised their children in Georgetown, where the family was a familiar sight at the hockey rink or bowling alley. A skilled 5-pin bowler and an avid card player, she cherished time spent with friends. Later in life, she successfully passed the Canadian Securities Exam - a feat not accomplished by many women at the time. She did this while working at Loblaws where she could connect with almost anyone. She was always curious and embraced Tai Chi with long-time friend - the other Barb - and loved sharing her knowledge and love of all things investing and business.

Barb's love extended deeply to both people and animals. Her loyal canine companions—Max, Boo, and Tam—were her best buddies, and she was a familiar sight in her neighborhood, walking them with pride. Her lifelong passion for horses was evident, and watching the Kentucky Derby each year was a cherished tradition she never missed.

Music brought her immense happiness, and she was known to spontaneously burst into song—especially when "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" , "Unforgettable " or Frank Sinatra was playing. Smart, stubborn, fiercely independent, and feisty, Barb was truly one of a kind. Her vibrant spark, her genuine laughter, and her boundless love will be missed more than words can say. Simply unforgettable.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 11th at Glen Williams Town Hall from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Upper Credit Humane Society which provides loving homes for animals in need or Baycrest Foundation which has a goal of defeating dementia. A special thank you to the staff at Mountainview Residence who shared some time with Barb and cared for her lovingly.
