"Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories."
Barbara Janet Murray (nee Adams) passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, with her family by her side at Georgetown Hospital on March 8, 2026.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Andrew, her children David, Leanne (Brent) and Steven (Nancy), who were her pride and joy, and her beloved grandchildren, Sherilyn (Matt), Chelsea, Noah (Sarah), Jordan, Raven, Rylan and Griffyn. She will be smiling down on us as we welcome her first great-grandchild in just a few months.
Barbara was born in Southampton, England, on January 14, 1942 to parents Violet and George Adams. She was a devoted big sister to John, who predeceased her.
After coming to Canada at the age of 12, Barbara spent a few years in the Toronto area with her family before finding her home in Georgetown, Ontario.
While a student at Georgetown District High School, she caught the eye of a certain young man named Andrew Murray, whose family also recently settled in Georgetown, leaving Glasgow, Scotland in hopes of a better life in Canada. And thus began an enduring love story that lasted nearly 70 years.
Barbara and Andrew’s love for each other was unbreakable. Their life together is a testament to the power of love, loyalty, support, devotion – and laughter.
If somebody had ever asked Barbara what her greatest gift to the world was, she would have probably answered her children and her grandchildren. But really, her greatest gift to the world was herself. She was kind, compassionate, thoughtful, selfless and unwavering in her loyalty to her family and friends.
Sometimes shy and somewhat cautious, she could be convinced to reveal her adventurous side. She paddled a canoe in Banff, commanded a snowmobile near Parry Sound, braved the final plunge with her best friend Rena on Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World, learned to snorkel in the ocean with her family in the Bahamas (even though she couldn’t swim) and piloted her own Sea-Doo across the shores of Georgian Bay so quickly she got a speeding ticket from the marine police officer.
Barbara also found great joy in the simplicities of life, like walking on the beach or making one of her famous cherry pies. But most of all, Barbara simply enjoyed being with family.
She will be profoundly missed but we will be forever grateful for the life we were blessed to share with her.
Never wanting to be the center of attention, Barbara’s service will be private for immediate family only. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, any donations in Barbara’s memory should be directed to Cancer Assistance Halton Hills or a Humane Society of your choice.
