Arthur John Loveless
January 11, 1943 - February 13, 2013
Dr. Arthur John Loveless, aged 70, of Limehouse, Ontario went to be with his Lord early on Wednesday morning. He died suddenly of a massive heart attack on February 13, 2013. This came as a shock to family and friends, as he was fully engaged in regular activities the day before, and had no health complaints. Art grew up in Streetsville, Ontario where his parents, William Tracey Loveless and Jean Loveless, owned a dairy business. He earned his PhD. in Geophysics at the University of British Columbia, and also earned his professional engineering papers. He was married to Judy for 46 years. He began his career in 1970 as a geophysicist in the outback of Western Australia, working for Carpentaria Exploration, a mining company. He later moved to Brisbane, Queensland, to the head office of Mount Isa Mines. He returned to Canada in 1974 to take a position with Barringer Research Ltd. (later acquired by Smiths Detection) as a research scientist, where he worked until he retired in 2009. While there, he was a key designer of various airborne exploration systems and a suite of drug and explosives detection equipment. Art was first of all a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He started each day in prayer and Bible reading, and was actively involved in his local church. He loved being with his family and doing creative projects with them, including building his own home. In later years, he has enjoyed helping his children with projects in their homes. From an early age, he had a hobby of model trains, and was just in the process of revamping his basement layout. He enjoyed classical music, playing chess, Sudoku, reading books and doing puzzles. Since his retirement, he and his wife, Judy have travelled to many parts of the world. They used their home regularly to entertain others, and Art took special pleasure in talking with international students. Art was a firm believer in parental choice in education. He devoted a lot of his spare time to serving on the board of the local Christian school which his children attended. He also developed school administration software for independent schools. Over the years he served on numerous boards. Most recently, he was serving on the Eurovangelism board and on the elders' board of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by: his wife Judy (nee Clark); his son Kelvin (Shelley) of Burlington; his daughter Sherine (Lynn Boville) of Southampton; and son Edward (Ashley) of Barrie. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren: Bethany, Jocelyn, Aaron, Luke, Ada, William, and Adelaide; his brother William (Gerrie) of Ottawa and family; and all whose lives he has touched.
Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd., north of Maple Ave., Georgetown 905-877-3631 on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Maple Avenue Baptist Church (177 Maple Avenue, Georgetown) on Tuesday February 19th, at 10:30 a.m.
