Alexander Pert (Jock) Milne passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025 at Mountainview Residence. Beloved husband of Ellen (Maudie). Loving father of Ian. ‘Favourite father-in-law’ of Nancy. Loving grandfather of Alexandra and Jordan. Proud uncle of Susan (Steve), Charlie (Wendy), Bryan (Heather), Paul and Christine (Harrison), Cameron and Alexis. Predeceased by his siblings: Nancy (John), Joe (Ina), Charlie (Maisie), Robert (Doreen) and his parents Annie and Robert.
Jock and Maudie were lovingly and joyfully welcomed into the families of Nancy’s sisters: Joan, Helen, Ruth and Laura. Maudie and Jock adored all of them and spent countless happy times with them. Nancy’s sisters became like daughters to them and their children like grandchildren. When Maudie passed away these relationships continued and filled Jock’s life with many cherished times – dancing, cottaging, family dinners, kid’s school and sports events, sailing, etc.
Jock emigrated to Canada from Scotland after the second world war. Alex spent a few years in Toronto where he met his wife. After the couple married they moved to Port Hope for several years (where Ian was born) and then on to Kingston where Alex taught Auto Mechanics and Geography at QECVI for 26 years until his retirement in 1988. Jock loved being a teacher and cared deeply about his students.
Jock had a friendly aura of kindness and integrity with everyone. Always quick to lend a hand with a smile on his face Jock helped out on many projects for family and friends over the years. He always brought smiles, laughter and thoughtful expertise to every project. Jock loved social gatherings with family and friends. He had a special energy to him making him the last to bed and first to be up for breakfast at many family gatherings. An avid sailor Jock was happiest around water. He shared his love of sailing with family and friends on countless outings on Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence. These sailing trips – sometimes overnight, sometimes day trips, were always filled with music and laughter.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mountainview Residence. You provided such loving and expert care for Jock and went above and beyond with many individual acts of kindness over his years there. You deeply touched our hearts.
He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Celebration of life to be held at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Sunday June 8th, 2025 (also to be live streamed). Visitation at 11 and service at noon. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) would be appreciated.
